Charles Martin 250 lbs beat Vyacheslav Glazkov 218 lbs by TKO at 1:50 in round 3 of 12

Notes

  • Title became vacant after Tyson Fury opted to face Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch instead of facing mandatory challenger Glazkov.
  • Purse bid scheduled for December 18.[1]
  • Martin's promoter Warriors Boxing won the bid with an offer of $1.238 million.[2][3]
  • Not much happened in the first two rounds of the fight, which the judges scored evenly. In the third round, Glazkov went down twice while throwing punches. The first was ruled a slip by referee Albert Earl Brown, but it appeared Glazkov was injured in the fall. Shortly after the bout resumed, Glazkov appeared to further injure his knee after landing a body shot on Martin. Glazkov went down backwards as the right leg gave way, and rolled over face first, his right knee shot. Remarkably Referee Albert Earl Brown ruled it a knockdown, though Martin had not even landed a punch. Glazkov beat the count, but was unable to continue because of the injury. The brief vacant world title bout was over and Martin was crowned IBF World Heavyweight Champion. Glazkov was later diagnosed with a completely torn ACL, a dislocated knee, a torn medial meniscus and sprains of his MCL and LCL.
  • Fight averaged 437,000 viewers on Showtime.[4]
  • As a result of the complicated nature of injury combined with disputes with his promoter, Glazkov decide to retire from boxing. He has since become an owner of a truck driving company in the United States.
