  • Referee: Jimmy Devlin

"Jose Napoles hardly needed a shower after slicing Pete Toro's face and knocking him down twice Monday night to win by a TKO with 28 seconds left in the 9th round of a 10 round non-title bout. Napoles gave the 8,000 fans what he thought he was paid to produce. The better half of Napoles was not included for such a small purse. Napoles didn't pick up the tempo until the start of the 8th. It was then he opened a deep gash over Toro's left eyelid and another beside the right eye, and a flurry of punches then knocked the Puerto Rican-born New Yorker down with a minute left in the 8th. In the 9th, Napoles moved in quickly and put down Toro again midway through the round, and a minute later referee Jimmy Devlin waved the fight over as Toro cringed with his back to Napoles to avoid more punishment." -United Press International

  • Napoles' purse - $25,000
