Jose Napoles 146 lbs beat Adolph Pruitt 144 lbs by TKO at 2:10 in round 2 of 15

"Jose Napoles retained his world welterweight crown with a 2nd round TKO over Adolph Pruitt of St. Louis. Pruitt waded into the champion at the opening bell of the 1st round of the championship bout, but Napoles scored effectively with short and long jabs. Napoles slammed Pruitt almost at will with lefts and rights to the face and head as the 2nd round opened. Pruitt's bob-and-weave style was little defense for the Cuban-born champion. Even when backed into a corner, Napoles scored repeatedly." -Associated Press

  • Referee Octavio Meyran stopped the contest at 2:10 of the 2nd round due to Pruitt's right eye closed and s deep cut over his left eye.
  • Attendance - 13,800 (capacity)
  • Purses - Napoles - $70,000, Pruitt - $10,000
