"Ruben Olivares, 130 3/4, isn't what he used to be, but he was still something more than a pushover for Bobby Chacon, 131 1/4, in a battle of former featherweight champions at the Forum Saturday night. Chacon, an 8-5 favorite, won a unanimous decision and will settle for it. Chacon was credited with a knockdown in the 2nd round when he threw his first decent combination and followed with a left to Ruben's belly that sat Olivares on his rump. By the 5th round Olivares' footwork was plodding and his punches were slow motion, although his great heart continued to carry the fight to Chacon." -Independent Press-Telegram
- Unofficial I-Press-Telegram scorecard - 98-92 Chacon
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 7-3 Chacon
- Pasadena Star-News - 96-94 Olivares
