"Carlos Ortiz, 33, former lightweight champion of the world, came out of a 17 month retirement and got the decision over Edmundo Leite, Brazil, in a 10-round welterweight fight in NY's MSG. The bout was planned to lead Ortiz into a title fight with welterweight champion Jose Napoles. Let it be said Ortiz showed a lot of ring rust and needs a couple of good fights to qualify for Napoles." -Ring Magazine, February 1970 issue
- MSG had lined up Donato Paduano for Ortiz on January 26, 1970 in the Garden. Ortiz, however, retired once again.
- Attendance - 8,731
- Gate - $37,656

Post-fight comment
- "You saw only 35% of Carlos Ortiz out there. I do need four months of training and then I will be ready for Napoles."
