Floyd Patterson 189 lbs beat Vic Brown 198 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10
- Date: 1971-08-21
- Location: Peace Bridge Arena, Buffalo, New York, USA
- Referee: Arthur Mercante 9-1
- Judge: Tony Castellano
- Judge: Richard Fay
Former heavyweight boxing champ, beating the bush leagues for a third crack at the crown he twice held, met with relatively unknown Vic Brown last night and came up with a unanimous 10-round decision.
Patterson concentrated on Brown's body saying it was his "game plan" to offset Brown's southpaw punches. "I didn't do much jabbing," Patterson said, "because I heard Brown is a good right hooker."
Patterson was credited by both judges with taking every round. Referee Art Mercante gave him nine and awarded one - the fourth to Brown, a 29-year-old from Buffalo.
"No, I'm not fighting these fellows to make money," Patterson said. "All I want is a shot at the title."
Patterson's sights are now set on matches with ex-champion Muhammad Ali and current titlist Joe Frazier.
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 9-0-1 Patterson
