"Willie Pep, 123 1/2, master of the featherweights, put his title on the line last night and took it back when he was good and ready - at 1:05 of the 5th round. Up to that point Pep had been playing with St. Louis' Charley Riley, 125 1/2, who had pleaded for several years for a crack at the title. For four rounds they waltzed around, with now and then a flurry of right and left jabs - mostly from Pep, as Riley couldn't find a place for his good right hand. Then, in the 5th, Pep found a place for his knockout blow and he let it go. Pep feinted a left and like a streak of lightning the right uppercut came barreling through onto Riley's jaw, which spun Charley 45 degrees before falling flat on his face, out cold." -Associated Press

- Gate - $56,905 (St. Louis record at that time)
- Purses: 50% of the net proceeds went to Pep and 10% went to Riley
