"Barney Ross, Chicago, today appeared nearer a lightweight title bout with Tony Canzoneri after a decisive 10 round victory over Goldie Hess, 135, Santa Monica, Calif., in the Chicago Stadium last night. Ross, 134, won the unanimous decision of the judges and referee. Hitting Hess at will, driving lefts and rights with monotonous rapidity into the Californian's face, Ross won every round and did everything but knock the game westerner off his feet. Several times Hess wavered on uncertain legs. Somehow he always managed to stay up though badly beaten. After the bell ended the 6th and 7th rounds, Hess staggered to his corner almost out. A right uppercut almost upset him in the 9th and he just barely lasted the 10th." -United Press
