"Barney Ross, 142 1/2, of Chicago, displayed all the boxing mastery that made him welterweight champion and came through as expected here last night, knocking out Laddie Tonielli, 150 1/4, Cicero, Ill., in the 5th round of their scheduled 10 round meeting. Tonielli, who fought bravely throughout, almost was kayoed in the 3rd when he went down for nine counts as Ross caught him on the chin. He was dazed when he reached his feet but struggled through. Tonielli still was fighting gamely in the 5th but Ross unloosed a barrage of body blows and followed up with a left, right and another left and right to the head to drop him at 1:20 of the round." -Associated Press
