"Salvador Sanchez, receiving surprising resistance from unheralded Jorge 'Rocky' Garcia, earned a unanimous 15-round decision Saturday night to retain his WBC featherweight championship. Sanchez simply outgunned the game Garcia. Garcia, of Placento, Calif., stood toe-to-toe with Mexico's Sanchez through the final five rounds as the Reunion Arena crowd of some 5,000 loudly applauded their effort. Although Sanchez cut Garcia under the left eye in the 11th round, it only seemed to infuriate Garcia who came back to snap the champion's head with two quick rights. Both fighters traded shots in the final two rounds although Sanchez got the better of the fray." -Associated Press
