"Dick Tiger, the recrowned middleweight champion of the world, celebrated his clearcut, unanimous victory over defending champion Joey Giardello at MSG last night in their return 15 rounder. From the opening bell, the perfectly conditioned Nigerian stalked the boxer who had dethroned him in Atlantic City in '63. He bombed Giardello to the body, slowing the champ down, and then worked his punches up. It was a jabbing lead or a thumping right to the ribs that started off most of Tiger's barrages, but it was the left hooks that shook up Joey consistently. Tiger opened a cut over Giardello's left eye in the 2nd round and a slight gash over the right eye in the 9th. By the 11th round he had the fight won, but could never floor the game American. Giardello rallied in the last three rounds but it was too late and his looping blows never bothered Tiger." -Associated Press
