Lothar Abend vs. Ben said Saouita (2nd meeting)

Lothar Abend beat Mohamed Ben Saouita by PTS in round 8 of 8

Back in 1964, the postman from Kiel Lothar Abend had KO' d the French- based Moroccan Ben said Saouita in the 1st round. This rematch showed that the Moroccan had developed into a fine, strong boxer, far better than his 4-5-0 record indicated. Abend, with a 23-3-0 record had recently won and lost the German fetaherweight title and been stopped in a European lightweight title bout by French champ Maurice Tavant.

Abend (60 kg ) had trouble in avoiding the right crosses from Saouita (60,5 kg ). He had to go down and take a 3 count in the 1st round. In round 2 and 3, Abend scored with jabs and built a small points lead. The last 4 rounds saw Abend scoring more points, but also being hit occasionally by Saouita's hard sneak punches. Abend secured a points win with a rally in round 7 and 8.
