Soose gave Zale a boxing lesson. Zale landed a terrific right to the jaw in the first round and it took three rounds for Soose to overcome the effects of it. Then he opened up "and circled the hard-hitting Pole, chopping and hooking his way" to a big advantage through the next five rounds. Zale rallied in the last two rounds, but he had fallen too far behind. The referee and Judge Metz scored it 53-47 for Soose, and Judge Lynch scored it 52-48, also for Soose. Attendance was 6490 (largest at Mills Stadium since 1928) and the gross gate was $12,064.
