"Slow-starting Sonny Ray of Chicago parlayed stamina and a punishing body attack into a decision over Eddie Cotton Wednesday night in a 10 round light heavyweight fight televised nationally from Fairgrounds Coliseum. Cotton, of Seattle, carried the fight to his foe in the early rounds. He kept Ray off-balance with swift left jabs and opened a cut over Ray's left eye in the 5th. But Ray picked up the pace in the 6th and kept Cotton doubled up with savage shots to the mid-section. In the 10th, a combination to the chin had Cotton hanging on at the bell." -Associated Press
