"Light heavyweight contender Eddie Cotton of Seattle, wash., had high hopes today of getting an autumn shot at the 175 pound crown because of Thursday night's victory over British and Empire champion Chic Calderwood of Scotland. Cotton earned the decision of referee Frank Wilson because of his stronger finish in the 10 rounder at the Paisley Ice Rink. However, the crowd - apparently believing that Calderwood had gained enough advantage in the first half of the bout to offset Cotton's closing superiority - booed the verdict lustily." -United Press International
