"Nino Benvenuti won the world junior middleweight crown from Sandro Mazzinghi last night with a knockout at 2:40 of the 6th round. Benvenuti uncorked a sharp right to Mazzinghi's chin that floored the champion and created a surprise ending to this all-Italian title bout. Mazzinghi, who was sharp, fast and more disciplined than usual, built a slight edge going into the 6th before he was felled by the terrific right. He managed to sit up after the count reached 10 and tolled him out as champion." -United Press International
