"Jersey Joe Walcott turned the tables on young Joey Maxim by winning a 10 round decision over the Cleveland Italian in their return bout before a crowd estimated at 10,000 in Convention Hall tonight. Walcott took advantage of his pull in the weights and of his superior punch to try for a knockout in most sessions. Meanwhile, Maxim shook off most of Walcott's hooks or parried them on his arms, and kept up a persistent stabbing attack against Jersey Joe. Now and then Maxim moved into close quarters and gave Walcott an unexpected body beating. There was no knockdowns and no bloodshed." -United Press
- Unofficial UP scorecard - 4-4-2 Draw
- Walcott was penalized the 4th round due to a low blow.
- This win was expected to earn Walcott a rematch with Elmer (Violent) Ray, who had outpointed Walcott in MSG in November. The rematch was indeed signed for March and took place in Miami.
