Fighting Harada 121 lbs beat Ray Asis 121 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Japan's Masahiko (Fighting) Harada, 21, pounded out a unanimous 10-round decision over Rey Asis of Manila in a fiery bantamweight battle Monday night at the Sports Arena. Harada fought from the 2nd round with his face a bloody mess. The 26 year old Asis followed a solid left hook with a right that split a gash on Harada's left eyelid, and the wound bled freely from there on. Several times it appeared that the fight might be stopped. The decision was unanimous - and lopsided - although most of the rounds were close. Harada, a high-ranking challenger for the bantamweight crown, hopes to land a fight with the champion, Eder Jofre of Brazil." -Associated Press

  • Harada was originally set to meet No. 1 contender Jesus Pimental on this card but Pimental bowed out 2 weeks beforehand claiming a stomach disorder. Asis then substituted.
  • Harada required 6 stitches to close the wound on his left eye.
  • Eder Jofre was ringside for this match.
  • Both Civic Boxing Enterprises, Inc. (the promoter of this card) and the Olympic Boxing Club were on hand to seek a signature from Jofre to defend his title in August against Pimental.
  • 3 days earlier, Harada filed a $56,000 damage suit and a writ for an injunction against Pimental to keep him from meeting anyone until he fulfilled his obligation to Harada.
