"Baby-faced Mauro Vazquez extended his undefeated victory string to 24 Thursday night at Olympic Auditorium before a near capacity house by scoring a unanimous decision before the 7th ranked lightweight Baby Vasquez. Mauro was behind on all cards after the first five rounds and was forced to rally in the last half of the fight to pull the decision out of the fire. The only knockdown of the fight came in the 2nd round when Mauro was knocked to the deck by a stinging left hook. He bounced up immediately and referee Charlie Randolph tolled off only the count of one. Baby Vasquez surprised the gathering by bullying his 21 year old opponent around for the first half of the fight. The tide changed in the 6th round, however, when Mauro suddenly jolted his opponent with a barrage of hooks and staggered baby repeatedly in the 7th and 9th rounds." -Long Beach Press-Telegram
