"Raul Rojas is the new junior lightweight champion in California and he's willing to settle the issue of the rest of the world - if Flash Elorde is. Rojas, who turned in a workmanlike demolition of Argentina's Vicente Derado in Thursday night's fracas at the Olympic, wants to settle this thing once and for all. Some 9,000 fans were looking on as Rojas piled up an impressive lead over Derado before referee George Latka put a stop to the proceedings with less than 15 seconds remaining in the 15 round fight. Derado had suffered a five-stitch gash to his left eyelid in the 12th round, and Latka agreed with the ringside doctor that the gush of blood from the cut made the continuation of the fight too risky. Derado was trailing on the cards of both judges and the referee when the end came." -Pasadena Star-News
