"Chango Carmona, 134 1/2, Mexico City, came on after a slow start to stop game veteran Lalo Moreno, 135, Mexico City, to retain his Mexican lightweight crown. Moreno went all out in the first four rounds with violent flurries that opened a cut over Carmona's left eye. But Chango went to work in the 5th and 6th, scoring with neat right hand leads and left hooks. Finally, in the 7th, a stinging right sliced Moreno's left eye, causing blood to spurt profusely. With 2:10 gone in the heat, referee Ernesto Magana stopped the action and after seeking advice from the ringside physician, halted the bout." -World Boxing, June 1972 issue
