• Former WBA and IBF World Cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev was penalized one point in round three as per WBC rules when an accidental headbutt by Lebedev opened a cut over the right eye of Mchunu. The cut did not affect Mchunu nor the outcome of the bout. One judge gave Mchunu, ranked third worldwide on BoxRec, and ranked eighth by thr World Boxing Association, all 12 rounds, another gave Mchunu 10 rounds. Not a close bout overall. Lebedev, 40 years old at the time of this bout, announced his permanent retirement after this comeback attempt loss. Lebedev, who had to shed 30 pounds in the month before this bout to make the cruiserweight weight limit, looked much slower than years past, and his timing was off, allowing Mchunu to outwork him fairly easily. Though Lebedev was not hurt, he was getting hit too much, not throwing or landing enough to win the majority of rounds.
