Terry Allen 114 lbs lost to Dai Dower 114 lbs by KO in round 2 of 10

  • Date: 1954-03-23
  • Location: Earls Court Empress Hall, Kensington, London, United Kingdom
  • "Dai Dower of Wales Tuesday night knocked out Terry Allen, former world flyweight champion, in the 2nd round of their 10-round bout at Empress Hall. A short right to the head dropped Allen for the count. Allen, the British champion, was outclassed from the opening bell. He tried to crowd the Welshman at the start, but gave ground when Dower, unbeaten in 13 bouts, pumped over a series of left jabs and stinging right crosses. Dower has become Britain's chief hope to gain the world title held by Yoshio Shirai of Japan." -Associated Press

    • This bout was only a 10-rounder because Dower, at age 20, could not contest Allen for his British flyweight title due to BBB of C rules that a fighter could not vie for a British title until the age of 21.
    • Allen had already been signed to challenge European flyweight champion Louis Skena for his title. However, Skena abruptly retired and Allen received the title shot, despite his loss to Dower, for the vacant title.
