"Dwight Hawkins uncorked the magic one-punch cooler to finish off Dinamita Rojas of Stockton in the 2nd round of their scheduled 10-heat feature event before 2,500 at the Olympic Auditorium. Hawkins caught his Latin opponent near the ropes late in the 2nd heat, snapped two solid left hooks to the body that hurt Rojas and then came up hard with a left hook to the head that sent Rojas reeling to the canvas for the count." -Long Beach Press-Telegram

• The knockdown was scored at 2:53 of the 2nd round but due to a rule in force at the time by the California State Athletic Commission that prohibits the bell when a fighter has been knocked down, Rojas took the count and the fight was scored a knockout with no time.
