"A bloody Frankie Ryff, trying for a comeback, pounded out a unanimous 10 round decision Tuesday night over Angel (Robinson) Garcia, Havana lightweight. Ryff, a former NY taxi driver, started out strongly but appeared to weaken in the middle rounds when Garcia staggered him with body punches and opened cuts on his scalp and eye. However, Ryff came back in the closing rounds to score with combinations to the head. A crowd of 2,106 was on hand at the Miami Beach Auditorium." -Associated Press
- Ryff had briefly retired due to his tendency to cut in every bout. He was talked back to the ring by new manager Barney Ross and trainer Whitey Bimstein.
