"Jimmy Young of Philadelphia, raised his record to 22-5-2 but wasn't able to notch his 8th knockout against 24-10 journeyman Jody Ballard, 205, Houston. Young took batting practice in his unanimous 10-round decision over the gritty Ballard, who is the prototype of a good sparring partner. Both fighters lost a point for abusing the rules and some of Young's most telling punches were south of the beltline but he was polite enough to apologize to Ballard." -Las Vegas SUN
- Unofficial Las Vegas Sun scorecard - 46-42 Young
- Also on this card, Ken Norton stopped Lorenzo Zanon, thus keeping his #1 rating, whilst Young kept his #2 rating intact. Thus, their November 5th Las Vegas elimination bout at Caesar's Palace was officially on.
