  • Location: Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California, USA
  • "Bantamweight Edgar Roman, Venezuela, went into his fight against Kiko Bejines, the WBC's No. 1 contender, as a virtual unknown and a heavy underdog. But four rounds later, no one was laughing as Roman won on a TKO when the Mexican suffered a separated left shoulder and ring doctor Bernard Schwartz saw him unable to answer the bell for the 5th round. Bejines' first loss of the year lowered his record to 30-4 and shocked a pro-Mexican crowd of 5,170. Roman pulled off another surprise too, decking Bejines with a straight right hand in the 4th round. From the first bell, Roman showed he wasn't going to give any ground as he refused to backpedal when Bejines mounted his quick-handed attack." -Santa Ana Orange County Register

    Post-fight comment

    • "It happened (the separation) when I threw a punch and missed. It happened a round before I went down. I couldn't use my left arm. It came out of the socket, but my dad put it back after the fight. I could have won if I'd gone the distance. But he fights pretty good." -Kiko Bejines
