Willie Pastrano 185 lbs beat Tom McNeeley 203 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Willie Pastrano eyed a lucrative European boxing tour today after his win over recent title challenger Tom McNeeley. Pastrano, outweighed by 18 pounds, made the ex-football player look like a big mousetrapped tackle last night while dancing his way to a unanimous 10-round victory at Boston Arena. McNeeley lunged, heaved and thrust his 203 pounds at the Miami Beach veteran from start to finish. But he didn't land more than 8 or 10 real punches. Meanwhile, Pastrano was flicking stinging lefts to Tom's head and scoring with an occasional right. Though he hadn't been in the ring for nine months, Pastrano looked excellent and the outcome never was in doubt." -Associated Press

  • Unofficial AP scorecard - 98-93 Pastrano
  • Though the gate netted $4,493.50, Promoter Sam Silverman had guaranteed both McNeeley and Pastrano $2,500 apiece, with the show losing money.

Post-fight comments

  • "I don't want any fellow that I manage to be put in the ring without the weapons to defend himself with. If the fight had been more decisive our decision would be made for us, but it wasn't decisive." -Peter Fuller, McNeeley's manager, on contemplating McNeeley's retirement.
  • "Not decisive? Nobody else saw it that way. The kid is strong and has got a lot of courage, but nobody could say the fight wasn't decisive." -Willie Pastrano
