"Oscar 'Shotgun' Albarado, 152 1/2, of Uvalde Texas, earned a split 10 round decision over Thurman Durden of Los Angeles with a surge in the final three rounds Thursday night. It was a bruising battle from start to finish with the fighters standing toe-to-toe much of the bout. Durden, 155, appeared to take the first three rounds and the 4th was even before Albarado came back. He opened a cut over Durden's left eye in the 9th round and pounded the injury in the 10th. By the end of the fight, however, his own right eye was nearly shut because of an earlier cut." -Associated Press
