The Helsinki newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet, in Swedish language, reported 15/02 1964 from the preliminary bouts on theMaeki vs.Rudhoff for the European lightweight title:

" A draw for Bergloef, injustice.

Jarmo Bergloef- Vincenzo Pitardi. A draw. The beginning was not promising for Bergloef. Pitardi hit easily, but the blows were without punch. Bergloef threw in heavy blows, but missed. Bergloef focused better in the second, but Pitardi had built up a solid lead with more hits. The Italian's speed somewhat slowed down a bit in the 3rd round. Bergloef beat Pitardi against the ropes with lefts. The way Pitardi avoided Bergloefs bar- room swings in the 4th, just to come back and force the Finn on the defensive, was a demonstration of pure elegance. Bergloef missed his biggest chance in the 5th when he hit with a left. Pitardi's knees buckled, but Bergloef gave him time to shake off the effect. Lots of wild swings from Bergloef in the last round. Most of them made large gaps in the air, the hits were very few. A victory for Picardi seemed obvious. Bergloef didn't win a single round. "
