Preben Rasmussen vs. Franco Caruso
Preben Rasmussen beat Francesco Caruso by PTS in round 6 of 6
- Date: 1967-02-02
- Location: K.B. Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark
- Referee: Svend Aage Christensen
The crowd in Copenhagen's KB- Hallen finally recognized home boy Preben Rassmussen as a serious top contender after his win over Italian veteran Francesco Caruso who had a 19-19-3 record after 10 years in the ring.
The light welter Dane now showed skill and stamina and the ability to follow a carefully thought out plan. He was selective when he threw series after making openings in the seasoned veteran Caruso's guard with ripping left jabs. Earlier in his career he used to punch blindly at every turn.
Caruso had given another Dane Borge Krogh trouble in the same hall in November 1965. This time he was forced to back off and roll with his upper body for most of the 6 rounds. But he was surprisingly light footed and jumped now and then forward with dangerous punches Rasmussen avoided.
The applause seemd endless after the fight.
