"Bennie Briscoe, 158, piled up early points with a vicious body attack in Monday night's bout against Charlie Austin of Phoenix, Ariz., but had to rally in the late rounds to offset a letdown after a cut under his left eye was opened by a left hook in the 4th round. Referee Joe Sweeney also took the round away from Briscoe after warning him repeatedly of low blows. Austin, 160 1/2, came on with short rights and lefts to the head as Briscoe favored the cut eye but the bald Philadelphian rallied in the last two rounds to eke out the victory." -United Press International
- Although the UPI did not announce an unofficial scorecard, the AP had it 46-44 for Briscoe.
- This was a benefit card for the Deborah Hospital
- Briscoe was due to travel to NY to sign for a January 3, 1969 bout with Emile Griffith in MSG. However, the bout did not materialize until several years later.
