Jack McAuliffe 130 lbs beat Jack Hopper 128 lbs by TKO in round 17
- Date: 1886-02-27
- Location: Cedarhurst Country Club, Cedarhurst, New York, USA
In their first bout, Hopper had dropped the lightweight star McAuliffe and nearly had him out. Needless to say, Hopper had his bragging rights and was using them to their fullest extent. A rematch was scheduled for February of 1886 in Long Island. It was an extremely cold environment but never the less, the men battled fiercely for the first fifteen rounds. This was a war of attrition, as so many of McAuliffe battles turned out to be, and Hopper was the first to tire. In the 17th, McAuliffe ended the fight with one right hand. McAuliffe ended the annoying braggart in Hopper as well.
