"Guyana's featherweight champion, Patrick Ford, unanimously outpointed Enrique Solis of Puerto Rico at the National Sports Hall in Guyana before a large crowd. In so doing, Ford became the new featherweight champion of Central America and the Caribbean. Ford used his height and reach advantage effectively throughout the fight. Solis's best round was in the 7th, when he scored with several punches, using the left jab and right cross effectively; however, these punches did not seem to effect Ford in any way. Midway in the 9th, a tremendous left hook by Ford, followed up by a right, sent Solis to the canvas, where he took an eight-count at the bell. For the remainder of the fight Solis was prepared to rest on the ropes and invite Ford to come after him. Ford refused to be enticed and coasted to victory." -Ring Magazine, September 1979 issue
