McKinney knocked Palmer down in the 1st round with a left hook to the chin, with the bell sounding at the count of three. McKinney was careless and swinging wildly in the 2nd round, when Palmer caught him with a left hook to the chin midway into the round that dropped McKinney for a nine-count. McKinney appeared to be recovering from the knockdown when Palmer stepped in and nailed McKinney with a right hand to the jaw. McKinney dropped flat, and was counted out at 2:51 of the round by referee Ernie Jensen.
