"Launching a comeback after a seven-month layoff, Glendale hotshot Mike Nixon looked like a fighter of old as he easily whipped Tucson's Vicente Medina, the current Arizona middleweight king, in an action-packed 10 rounder. Already far ahead on points, Mike had Vicente out on his feet in the final heat from vicious flurries, but the veteran visitor managed to hang on until the bell sounded. Medina bled occasionally from the nose, while Nixon suffered a slight cut over the right eye." -INTERNATIONAL BOXING, October 1974 issue
- Although the accompanying article stated Medina was the Arizona state middleweight titleholder, his record only reflects having fought unsuccessfully for the title.
