"Los Angeles bantamweight Dwight Hawkins staged a vicious 10-round crusade on the body of Moi Torres to send the second of the fighting Torres brothers back to Guadalajara empty-handed at the Olympic Auditorium Thursday night. Hawkins bulled his way inside and began hammering away at an exhausting pace from the opening bell. Throughout the fight the two were seldom more than four inches apart as both concentrated on hammering one another mainly to the body with hooks to the jaw and round-house hooks to the head. While Hawkins was the aggressor throughout, Torres staged a stunning exhibition of inside counter-punching during the middle rounds. By the 7th the Mexican was tiring noticeably after being hurt by a solid left hook in the 5th. In the 8th and 9th rounds Torres managed to drop in straight rights which staggered his shorter opponent but Hawkins shook them off and continued his aggressive inside bulldozing." -Long Beach Press-Telegram
- This bout was originally scheduled to take place on the undercard of the Hiroyuki Ebihara-Efren Torres main event at the Olympic on April 30th. However, due to the riot that ensued when that decision was announced, the Hawkins-Torres bout, which was scheduled to take place after the main event, was postponed 1 week with the remainder of the card scrapped.
- Moi Torres is the older brother of Efren Torres.
