  • Willie Troy of Washington scored a 10th round technical knockout over Harlem’s Randy Sandy in the ten-round middleweight televised main event last night. Willie, 154 ½ pounds, performed the feat before 2,000 spectators including Rocky Marciano, newly crowned heavyweight champion. Troy is a stablemate of Marciano, both managed by Al Weill. The triumph ended a perfect pro record for Sandy and extended an unbeaten pro slate for Troy, who bowed twice to Randy when both were amateurs. The fight was stopped by Referee Harry Kessler after 39 seconds of the final round as Troy punched the helpless Sandy about. Troy kept walking in, heedless of Randy’s skillful boxing but soft punching, and dumped Randy at the tail end of the third and then at the start of the third and then at the start of the ninth. From the first knockout on, it was a question as to whether a courageous Sandy could last.
