"Famosito Gomez of Mexico City gained revenge for a narrow loss five weeks ago to Frankie Duarte of Los Angeles Thursday night by winning a majority 10-round decision. Gomez, 120, won with a rally in the final rounds in this rematch of their April 24th bout. The rematch was very close and was reflected in the voting by the judges. There were no knockdowns but it was a spirited slugging contest all the way. Each man grabbed the upper hand for a time, only to have his foe retaliate. Gomez twice staggered Duarte, 118, with right hands to the chin in the 9th round. However, Duarte, who had put on the pressure earlier in the fight, fought back viciously and only a stout defense by Gomez prevented Duarte from regaining the edge." -Pasadena Star News
