Len Harvey vs. Ben Jeby
Len Harvey 155 lbs lost to Ben Jeby 157 lbs by UD in round 12 of 12
- Date: 1931-03-20
- Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
- Referee: Jack Denning
"Len Harvey, British middleweight champion, was definitely through Saturday as a headline fistic attraction in this country. Harvey, beaten twice previously here by Vince Dundee, was given his last chance to stick in the limelight at MSG Friday night, and he failed. Ben Jeby of New York won the decision over the Briton in 12 rounds of dull milling. Even with an immense advantage over his opponent in height and reach, John Bull's boy was unable to win. A typical British boxer to the core, he was strictly a counter-fighter and failed to follow up the smashing overhand rights which he landed occasionally. He allowed Jeby to bore in and pile up points with his body punching. Len can't take it in the breadbasket. Time and again, he folded up and held on when Jeby worked on him down below. The decision of the referee and judges in Jeby's favor was unanimous." -International News Service
- The unofficial INS scorecard had Jeby up by one round without relating an exact point total.
- Former welterweight champion Jackie Fields was signed to fight Harvey next in MSG. However, Harvey went back to England and Fields ended up fighting Young Terry in the Garden in September.
