"Argentina's Victor Galindez, the WBA light heavyweight champion, ripped a flurry of punches in the 8th round Friday night to stop New Yorker Ray Elson after what had been a near-even fight. Galindez, 177, from Buenos Aires, staggered the American with a left-right to the head early in the 8th and then powdered him with at least 15 punches with no return. A left and right draped Elson, 175 1/4, over the ropes and referee Charlie Roth gave the mandatory eight-count. Elson tried to come back but showed no defense and Roth stopped the bout at 1:34 of the 8th in the scheduled 10-rounder." -Associated Press
