"Carl 'The Truth' Williams stopped Bert Cooper at the start of the 8th round Sunday of a nationally televised, scheduled 12 round USBA heavyweight title fight. Cooper's trainer, former heavyweight champion Joe Frazier, refused to allow his fighter to answer the bell for the 8th round. Williams, ranked 5th by the IBF, floored his Philadelphia opponent with a counter left hook in the opening round. Cooper rose easily and answered with a body combination, but never established his power thereafter." -Associated Press
