"2nd ranked lightweight contender Paolo Rosi decked Johnny Gonzalves with a right to the jaw in the 2nd round last night, then coasted to a unanimous 10 round decision. A 7-5 favorite, Rosi almost put the Oakland fighter down to stay in the wild 2nd, but Gonzalves managed to back-peddle his way out of trouble. Gonzalves contented himself with jabbing and holding throughout the next six rounds. Gonzalves almost went down again in the 8th when Rosi caught him with a long right to the chin, but he managed to stay upright with the aid of the ropes at his back. Gonzalves rallied in the 9th and 10th stanzas but Rosi's early edge stood up for the win." -United Press International
