"Rory Calhoun, high ranking middleweight, conceded that he hadn't looked as sharp as he might Wednesday night in winning a unanimous 10-round decision over Germany's Franz Szuzina in their televised fight. All three officials made Rory, from White Plains, N.Y., the winner by a wide margin but Calhoun wasn't satisfied with his performance. Calhoun spent most of the evening slamming away at long range, but he also was able to contain Szuzina's usually strong body attack in the clinches, There were no knockdowns, but Rory slipped to the canvas four times. He said he fell over his own or Szuzina's feet trying to set up Franz." -Associated Press
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 7-3 Calhoun
- Referee Joe Palmer penalized Calhoun the 7th round due to low blows.
