"The home folks viewing the TV feature were treated to a near upset, when hometown boy Felipe Torres gave 10th ranked junior lightweight Len Kesey a bad scare bowing on a close decision. Kesey, displaying little of the speed and quickness which has carried him to the top 10, was tight throughout the battle, and was seemingly reluctant to throw a right hand at Torres. At any rate, Kesey's punches showed little in the way of zip, but the edge in experience - plus a furious 10th round flurry - gave him the victory." -Pasadena Star-News
