Chavez and Ramos put on a competitive contest for three rounds. Ramos had his best round in the 2nd, the only which he arguably won, when he floored Chavez for a no-count with a wild flurry. Chavez assserted control near the end of the 3rd, after the two had traded on even terms earlier in the round. For the reminader of the bout, Chavez pressured Ramos, who backpedalled, and fought in spurts. Referee Bill Kershner stopped the bout in the 9th round, with Ramos holding on desperately.
