The popular welterweight Leif Hansen paid the price of popularity when he wanted to retire in his cormer after seven rounds against German Helmuth Höhmann at Jordal Amfi, Oslo. The crowd of 2300 booed their disapproval and an exthausted Hansen went out for the 8th and survived. By then his eye was swollen and he had been down in the 1st and 7th from hard rights, both times almost being counted out. His good old left jab from over 300 amateur bouts was ineffectual against the solid German.

Leif Hansen retired after this fight, telling the press that it was impossible to combine a pro career with being a promotor, which meant spending days on the phone, receiving visiting fighters at the airport and arranging chairs in the Nordstrandhallen.
