"Unranked Eddie Pace of Honolulu scored a surprising upset 10 round decision victory over 8th-ranked welterweight contender Curtis Cokes at the Olympic Auditorium last night. Pace, formerly of Santa Monica, Calif., built up a lead in the early rounds by crowding his slender opponent and then hung on when Cokes rallied in the late rounds." -United Press International
