"Curtis Cokes, No. 2 ranked welterweight from Dallas, knocked out Johnny Newman Monday night in the 2nd round of their scheduled 10 round fight. A single, lightning-fast right to the chin dropped Newman for the count. The San Fernando, Calif. youth was out a full minute before the Moulin Rouge Club Physician revived him. It was the first defeat for the fast-rising Newman, who came into the scrap with 18 straight victories." -Associated Press
