"Yama Bahama, the clever counter-puncher from the Bahamas, got off to a fast start Saturday night and gained a majority decision over favored Farid Salim of Argentina in a televised 10-rounder at MSG. Bahama piled up points with effective left jabs and left hooks and then withstood the Argentine champion's blistering rally in the last three rounds. Salim, who towered 4 inches over his rival, staggered Bahama in the 8th and 9th rounds and hurt him again in the 10th with rights to the jaw but the comeback was not enough. He couldn't drop Yama, although he opened a cut over his left eye in the final round." -Associated Press
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 6-4 Bahama
- Matchmaker Teddy Brenner attempted to make the rematch for December 23rd in the Garden, but never came to pass.
- Judge Leo Birnbaum scored it 5-5 in rounds, but even with NY's supplemental system used in an even score, Birnbaum still had it a draw 5-5 on points.
